JEFF AND THE ORGAN DONORS

PAH HOMESTEAD 26/2/25

Adrian Brown – guitar

Ryan Tomov – organ

Tyler Diprose – bass

Jeffrey Garus – drums/leader

William Rout – saxophone.

This band is a tribute to the music of the great Jimmy Smith, Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell.

The concert started on a funky soulful blues tinted groove, Jeff leading from the drums… just a simple driving rhythm. “Red Hot” was the tune and so it was. Ryan played cool and hot at the same time… rocking out steamy hot and smoking. William mixed Parker and the blues… hard bopping…. a drum solo like silver glitter shimmering in the air… with a musical conversation going on between the organ and bass.

On a Wes Montgomery number funky octaves cascaded out of Adrians guitar… like a beautiful girl in a short dress strutting in the summertime, then taking his own more modern fusion solo with Ryan cooking on the organ stiring the pot.It is interesting to note that Wes Montgomery was Jimi Hendrixs favorite guitarist.

The original “Fish Soup” Cymbals and bowed bass set the scene…Sax like a big celestrial chord exploding in a sunburst… very lyrical guitar and organ soloing sounding original…. swirling like mist driven by the wind… over a full range drum solo.

The second set opened with the classic “Back at the chicken shack”. The band really rocked out. .funky blues.. Adrian commentated on the theme in a Kenny Burrell spirit…William then took up the torch, while Ryan funked it up.

The next number was a Monk tune…. the musicians communicated the spirit of Monk very well… a cooking session boiling in the air…Adrian drew from the inspiration of a lot of more modern fusion guitarists for his solo…William blew hot Parker fire driven by fluid organ playing by Ryan.

The concert closed with an original composition by Adrian..bringing all the band members experience and musical influences together.

A really great night out.
