The concert opened with an original song about the moon. Hammond organ building the mood over subtle drums’ very much in the style of Van Morrison.
Beautiful moon…. Neil Young style harmonica over moody organ lines.
On Trace I appreciated the interplay between the musicians. My grand daughter(who is learning to play drums) mentioned how much Greg was doing musically in four four time.
On a cover of Neil Youngs Harvest Moon , Paul’s rhythm guitar playing set the mood… good vocals and he can play harmonica in the style of Neil Young.
A good cover of “If I was a carpenter” swirling organ underneath…. and great unity between the drums and bass.
Push me away (a track from their new album)featured the polished full sound of the organ… a real treat.
A original blues suffle… funky like hipchick going down boogieville doing the two hand fingersnap.
“Ciry Guy”featuring an other worldly guitar solo.
“Restless heart” a country feel…good vocals …wall of sound organ over full range of drums. There was so much to like musically. I talked to my granddaughters about other bands that I had listened to that came no where near the high musical standards of the De Soto’s.
“Swinging” (a Tom Petty cover) featured some great harmonica soloing from Stuart. Fluid guitar soloing over organ lines ….. like gentle rain falling.
“Always left behind” The Hammond organ smoking like a night in a backwoods juke joint… guitar soloing in the style of the late Stevie Ray Vaughn.
An original “Greeting” a funky blues like hipchick going downtown doing the ghetto strutt… her dress short… high heels sparking on the sidewalk…. harmonica bluesy and cool.
“Summer wine”featured Stuart with his good vocal range.
An Allman Brothers cover “Stormy stormy rain” organ and guitar painting a vista of a landscape in the South …..echoing Hendrix.
“Trouble” a drum driven organ storm like hipchick doing the Jody Grind.
They went out on a Neil Young cover…. high energy guitar and organ pure Ray Manzarek.
