Moslyn Cole-bass
Alan Brown -organ
Dixon Nacey-guitar
Eliiah Whyte-drums
Moslyn opened with a bassline tense as a bird on the wire ….. then an interesting musical conversation between Alan and Dixon … referencing Hendrix and Jimmy Smith (because they are the man) …. a slow boil to a cooking session…. Elijah crisp on the drums .
Moving into a gumbo of funk, blues and rock …. Krupa rhythm drum-dancing…. Moslyn popping and bopping like Jaco Patorius … a guitar solo of electric energy… riding a storm of organ driven thunderclouds then crashing to earth.
Alan launched into a Booker T influenced groove …. swirling and teasing the rhythm …. touching on Stevie Wonder and Ray Manzarak …. Dixons Montgomery octaves (talking about the man …. a musician showing respect for the master he learnt from). …. guitar, drums and bass ….tight funky solos …the sound Alan can draw from that keyboard is very impressive.
From a “beat goes on riff” ….. launching into a firestorm … Moslyn taking a Stanley Clarke influenced solo ….. Blues drenched Jimmy Smith riffing….really rocking out just like an intense lovemaking session.
A lot of the music tonight felt like leaving the path and improvising through
the forest …..Alan showing a Charles Earland influence …an Eric Gale guitar
starburst linking Africa to America … endlessly pulling new colours out of
the fingerboard …. an electric Hendrix wonderland …. driven by high energy
drumming …. we were not in Auckland … the band transported us someplace else.
